UN Climate Action Summit 23 Sep

On 23 September 2019, the Secretary-General of the United Nations will host the Climate Action Summit in New York with the objective of boosting ambition and rapidly accelerate action to implement the Paris Agreement. The Secretary-General aims to demonstrate a leap in collective national political ambition and massive low-emissions movements in the real economy by:

  1. Raising national ambition: Countries are asked to present concrete plans compatible with the IPCC’s Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5 degrees, and to reduce emissions by 45 per cent over the next decade and to net zero by 2050.

  2. Prompting transformative changes to aid implementation of plans.

  3. Generate political momentum through enhanced social and political drivers as well as youth and public engagement.
